The Sins – Sloth: A Rare Agricole Rhum from Marie Galante

The wait is over – Distilia unveils Sloth, the sixth release in its flagship The Sins series. Created in collaboration with independent spirits curator Robert Bauer, this new edition introduces a rare 13-year-old agricole rhum from Marie Galante, Guadeloupe. With only 185 bottles available worldwide, it stands as one of the most limited and collectible agricole rhums ever released.

Born of Patience and Tradition

Distilled in 2012 at the boutique RRL Distillery by Michele Lunardon, Sloth was crafted from long-fermented fresh sugarcane juice and double-distilled in Creole Müller bain-marie copper pot stills.

What makes these stills so exceptional is their artisanal design:

• The bain-marie system heats the wash gently with a water bath instead of direct fire, protecting the delicate aromas of sugarcane juice.

• Copper construction purifies the spirit by naturally removing unwanted sulfur compounds, resulting in a brighter, cleaner flavor.

• The Creole-style build, deeply rooted in Caribbean tradition, emphasizes long fermentations and full-bodied, terroir-driven character.

This combination delivers a distillate of remarkable depth and aromatic intensity – something that cannot be replicated with modern industrial methods. It is precisely this rare approach that gives Sloth its singular identity and authenticity.

After distillation, the rhum spent 13 years aging in a single ex-bourbon cask under tropical conditions, before being bottled in July 2025 at natural cask strength – 58.8% ABV. Unfiltered and undiluted, it captures the pure soul of Marie Galante rhum agricole.

Its character unfolds in waves of smoky spice, honeyed sweetness, ripe tropical fruit, mint, herbs, and precious woods – a vivid reflection of the island’s terroir and energy.

A Collector’s Edition Like No Other

This edition is not only expressive and deeply aged – it’s also unique in the history of RRL. Sloth is the oldest and only independent bottling from the distillery to date, making it a landmark for rum collectors.
