About the Distillery
Founded in 1918, Caroni was the heart of Trinidad’s rum production for decades. Located near a major sugar refinery, the distillery had ready access to local molasses and produced a broad range of rum styles, including the heavy, high-ester types now coveted by collectors. After being nationalized in the 1970s, Caroni struggled during Trinidad’s economic shift away from sugar, ultimately closing its doors in 2003. Its rums, once nearly forgotten, were rediscovered and revived by Velier - giving rise to a modern legend.
