Luca visited Hervé Damoiseau
During Luca’s rendezvous with Hervé Damoiseau, the head of Damoiseau rums, he encountered a sample of the 1980 Damoiseau rum. The National Institute of Origin and Quality’s refusal to classify it as “agricole” due to the inclusion of molasses distillation was fresh.
Upon sampling, Luca was entranced by the fusion of pure cane juice distillate and molasses. Preferring not to disturb this equilibrium, Luca resolved to bottle it as is, abstaining from dilution.
Damoiseau 1980
Hervé concurred, giving rise to Velier’s bottling of the Damoiseau 1980. Later, Luca learned that Hervé had also bottled this 1980 vintage at the same strength.
