A Japanese whisky distillery
Karuizawa whisky, produced by the distillery established in 1955 near Mount Asama in Miyota, Japan, is now a rare and highly sought-after collector’s item since the distillery’s closure in 2001.
It is worth noting that originally, the company produced not only alcoholic beverages but also pharmaceuticals and chemicals. Suzuki Chuji, the second son of the Ajinomoto brand founder, started with soybean cultivation and established the Showa Brewing Corp. in 1934, later renamed Miraku Breweries Corp. in 1949. The Karuizawa distillery opened six years later, initially using Scottish barley and sherry casks for their whisky production.
