Long Pond 1983/2022 – 38-Year-Old Full Proof Jamaican Rum
A rare bottling from the iconic Long Pond Distillery in Jamaica, released as part of the Sketches of the Past collection – a tribute to the legendary Count Wacław Rzewuski. Distilled in 1983 and aged for nearly four decades in oak, this single cask expression was bottled at full proof (52.5% ABV) in 2022, uncut and unfiltered. A bold, high-ester profile tamed by time, it offers depth, elegance, and undeniable character. Only 108 bottles were released.
This bottling is the twin half of the highly acclaimed Vane from the Golden Age of Piracy series release (RumX: 9.1/10). Held back for the right moment, it now features an original horse illustration from Rzewuski’s 19th-century manuscript, capturing the spirit of exploration and artistry that defines this collection.

About the Distillery
The Long Pond Distillery, established in the 18th century in Trelawny Parish, Jamaica, is one of the country’s most iconic rum producers. Renowned for its traditional pot still production and bold, high-ester style, Long Pond rums are intensely aromatic and unmistakably Jamaican. The distillery’s methods preserve the historical techniques that define the island’s rum heritage - fermentation with wild yeasts, long aging in tropical conditions, and distillation that emphasizes heavy, complex profiles. After a period of closure, the distillery resumed operations in 2017, further solidifying its legacy as a guardian of Jamaica’s rich rum-making traditions.
About the Collection
Sketches of the Past is a rare and evocative two-rum series inspired by the extraordinary life of Count Wacław Rzewuski - Polish aristocrat, orientalist, and adventurer. In 1817, Rzewuski became the first European to cross Arabia’s Najd region, earning the title of Emir among Bedouin tribes. His manuscript, Sur les Chevaux Orientaux, includes over 400 illustrations and is a seminal work in the history of Arabian horses.
This collection features two exceptional rums - a 38-year-old Long Pond and a 36-year-old Enmore - each bearing one of Rzewuski’s original equine sketches. It is not just a celebration of rare spirits, but a tribute to heritage, exploration, and artistic legacy.
